From the Mickey Mouse Club to Movie Stardom

Who would’ve thought that a stint in the Mickey Mouse Club would eventually lead to movie stardom? Ok, now before you say anything I said ‘movie’and not 'music'. Justin Timberlake is ‘trying’ to become a movie star and, honestly, he probably will be if he tries hard enough. A transition from music to film can be difficult but not when you are as prominent as Justin Timberlake. Timberlake wants to be known as an actor now even though we all want him to bring 'sexy back'. I swear I'm straight. Regardless, I’ll give him a chance. Ok, so besides JT, there’s Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears (we all know what killed any chance for her to be a movie star – see: “Crossroads”...wait, actually don’t if you haven’t but if you have, you know what I’m saying).

The only true member to really prove themselves as an actor is Ryan “The Gos” Gosling. Some call him “Goose” but I just keep thinking of Maverick’s wingman so we’ll keep it my way. Gosling has gone from smaller, under seen films like “The Believer” and “Half Nelson” to the quirky comedy drama “Lars and the Real Girl” to the realistic heartbreaking relationship drama “Blue Valentine” and most recently to the endearing comedy “Crazy, Stupid, Love”. The Gos is versatile and commands your attention on screen and with his current line of upcoming projects he shows absolutely no signs of slowing down.

“Drive” – directed by Nicolas Winding Refn (Bronson, Valhalla Rising) This film has been extremely praised by all that have gotten an early chance to see it at the Toronto Film Festival. Can’t wait!

“The Ides of March” – directed by George Clooney. A political drama that costars George Clooney, Marisa Tomei, Paul Giamatti, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Jeffrey Wright and Max Minghella(The Social Network). Go watch the trailer. It looks like another winner.

“Logan’s Run” – A remake of the Michael York film. IMDB describes the storyline as: A young man at odds with his society's mandatory death sentence for all those turning 21 plots a daring escape on the eve of his fateful birthday.

That’s only just a few of them. Ryan Gosling will be a household name within 2-3 years. You’ll see. For Ryan Gosling’s filmography click here.

  1. Goose belongs to the Top Gun character exclusively. No doubt about it. And somebody needs to lay the smackdown on the "MJ" thing. Until Michael Jackson died, MJ was Michael Jordan. Now everyone in the media says MJ when referring to Michael Jackson, and every time they do it, I first picture Michael Jordan. At this point, I don't care who the MJ is awarded to, as long as we're all clear on using it for one person and one person only.
