The Passion of Robocop

Some people after first experiencing the film, "Robocop", can easily pass the film as lazy story telling and a typical plot that one would see in an 80's action film. I'm here to tell those people they're wrong.

What about the passion of Robocop? What does the character go through? Who wouldn't like to have a gun in their robotic leg for easy access? These questions are important when critically viewing the film.

Enter Alex Murphy. A cop who tries to do what's right at all times. He is soon gunned down with over (at least what it seems like) 1000 bullets. He is later miraculously revived to a Super Cop. A Robocop.

While trying to grasp onto his former life and eliminating crime on the streets, he later lets vengeance settle in as he goes after the people who killed him. I mean, who doesn't like revenge movies where the protagonist is a cyborg?

So, after being slaughtered, dealing with memory loss as a programmed cyborg, and trying to avenge his own death(well, human death), how can you not root for Robocop as he's a protagonist who's faced much adversity to come to where he is at the end of the film.

People that believe Robocop is not worthy, you'd probably think it's easy to defeat him by shooting him in the mouth, but not many know that he catches bullets with his teeth. Yes, he moves as slow as a turtle, but that's just to intimidate his enemies. He can, when he wants, move enough fast to bite the bullet(pun intended).

Ok, so what if I was 12 when I first saw Robocop? It's nostalgic every time I see it on t.v. When the typical Joe views Robocop they are thinking about the fictional cyborg. Robocop needs to be viewed as the human within the robot. Should Robocop lose his humanity just because he's no longer human and programmed to think like a cop? No.

Ever wonder why it has spawned merchandise, two sequels, three television mini-series, video games and two comic book adaptations? Yeah, you think about that while I go take a piss.

Ok, I'm back. Still no answer? Well, I couldn't come up with one either.

So, do I really believe Robocop is a good movie? Well, not when comparing it to the "Short Circuit" films.
